Position Summary:

Our Health & Safety Manager is our on-site safety expert that adds tremendous value for our employees. This role works with key internal and external partners to perform training needs analyses, lead incident investigations, manage workers compensation and claims management programs, audit current work practices, and provides proactive guidance on hazard assessment and correction. To successfully help our team advance safety, this role serves as a guide, leader, and subject matter expert in Federal and State health and safety regulations, company standards, and best practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with SRMP Element Teams, Department Managers, and North Dakota Safety Partner to identify job-specific training needs for the facility. Develop safety training content, coordinate and/or conduct instructor led training (outsource as needed), coordinate and/or train other instructors via train-the-trainer materials, and develop processes and tracking mechanisms to ensure training is completed. Maintain job-specific training records by serving as system administrator for Alchemy software

  • Serve as subject matter expert on incident investigations for the New Hope location by providing guidance to leaders to ensure effective and thorough incident investigations. Develop and maintain incident investigation procedures and training, and deploy training to leadership and management positions. Serve as the lead incident investigator into significant safety incidents

  • Track and report incidents through Intelex system, and report incidents to OSHA as required. Maintain OSHA 300 log for New Hope facility. Perform incident analysis, track trends, and partner with operational partners to develop and deploy solutions to significantly reduce incidents

  • Execute on Workers Compensation processes by filing workers compensation claims with third-party administrator and partner with outside counsel and third-party administrator to manage workers compensation claims through close. Partner with legal, human resources, and other parties on workers compensation litigation, risk mitigation efforts, and the return-to-work processes

  • Be an active, on-the-floor, resource concerning employee health and safety; leverage established “safety scan” and audit processes to proactively identify unsafe conditions and behaviors. Develop and deploy training for facility leaders and employees to improve risk and hazard identification

  • Partner with local safety teams on facility hazard and risk assessment procedures; design and deploy tools, methodologies, processes, templates, programs, and initiatives to ensure reduction in workplace hazards and improved employee safety and health

  • Own Safety Orientation program for the New Hope facility. Deliver Safety Orientation program as part of the new hire onboarding process. Build safety training profiles, training checklists, and evaluation procedures to ensure compliance with regulations, codes, standards, and company expectations. Partner with SRMP Element 2 leader to evaluate efficacy of Safety and Health training programs

  • Own development, coordination, and tracking of Standard Operating Procedures, and SH&E programs, procedures, and training required by Federal and State OSHA Regulations.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, Risk Management, Loss Control, or related EHS field OR Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification in lieu of degree

  • 5+ years’ experience in a health or safety role in a manufacturing environment

  • Previous experience developing and deploying safety and health programs, initiatives, processes and training

  • Previous experience managing workers compensation and claims management processes

  • Previous experience performing safety and health incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions

  • Previous experience with advanced Microsoft Excel functions (formula development, data-based charts, Pivot tables/charts, and VLOOKUP functions)

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and extra hours, as needed

  • Must be able to travel up to 10%

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Previous experience with electronic database systems (Intelex, Alchemy, MSDS Online)
