POSITION SUMMARY:

Collects dried samples according to customer requirements, as well as incoming ingredient samples according to Michael Foods, Inc. requirements. Communicates and coordinates with Production and Receiving to keep sampling up to date and accurate. And ensures employees are following proper safety policies/procedures

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.

  • Adhere to all safety policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Follow all written laboratory standard operating procedures.

  • Follow all SQF, USDA, and FDA regulations.

  • Communicate with supervisor concerning all test results.

  • All techs must be trustworthy, reliable, organized, accurate and self-motivated.

  • Data entry into Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, and Word to maintain all results.

  • Inventory of all laboratory supplies.

  • Calibrate, monitor and maintain all laboratory equipment.

  • Work with autoclave/hazardous materials.

  • Work with hazardous chemical materials.

  • Handle live bacterial cultures and pathogens.

  • Send out samples to third party laboratories.

  • Pass AOAC and USDA check sample sets and audits.

  • Keep workspace organized/neat and clean.

  • Work Holidays and Weekends as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Good communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Capable of computing rates, ratios, and percents and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles that is critical to food products microbiology and chemistry testing.

  • Able to lift 55 pound boxes above the shoulders.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relations with co-workers, supervisors, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to problem solve.

  • Microsoft Word and Excel experience required.

  • Ability to recognize problem situations and take appropriate steps to resolve.

  • Available to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with others to complete work assignments.

  • Open to change.

  • Self-motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction.

  • Displays responsible behavior at work.
